Families in one of Western Sydney’s fast-growing suburbs are set for a multimillion educational boost as the Minns Labor Government makes progress on its election commitment to redevelop Melrose Park Public School and build a new public high school next door.
New renders of the planned redevelopment of Melrose Park Public School have been unveiled today, showing more detail of the public primary school’s upgrades.
The future redevelopment of Melrose Park Public School, which will be delivered by Day 1 Term 1 2027, include new classrooms, a new library, a new school hall and covered outdoor learning area, new staff administration facilities and a new public preschool to cater for young families in the area.
The next steps for the primary school project include finalising the schematic design before statutory approvals and a request for tender are issued.
The Minns Labor Government has also made progress on plans for a new public high school in Melrose Park, identifying a location for the new school on Hope Street and Wharf Road, neighboring Melrose Park public school. The new public high school is set to be completed in 2027.
These school infrastructure works will help meet the anticipated growth of student numbers in the Melrose Park area, where the population has increased by close to a third between 2016 and 2021, and Stage 2 of the Parramatta Light Rail construction will see the area continue to boom in coming years.
This investment in Melrose Park is part of the Minns Labor Government’s long-term plan to build better communities, with our record $3.6 billion investment to continue delivering a pipeline of new and upgraded schools in Western Sydney.
Member for Parramatta Donna Davis said:
“I am pleased that the Melrose Park community, which is experiencing rapid population growth, will soon enjoy a major upgrade to their facilities.
“Rapidly growing community will soon benefit from this important primary school project, and I look forward to seeing the finished result.”
Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said:
“Seeing designs for the major upgrades at Melrose Park Public School is exciting.
“This community has grown significantly in recent years; it is important that young Melrose Park families know they will have high-quality local public schools to send their children to.
“Our government is committed to delivering quality public schools to Western Sydney’s growing communities.
“After 12 years of neglect by the Liberals and Nationals, we are working to ensure growing communities have the essential school infrastructure facilities they need so every child can access a high-quality public education.”
Member for Bennelong Jerome Laxale said:
“It is imperative that we continue to invest in delivering high-quality public schools, so young families can grow and thrive.
“The redevelopment of Melrose Park Public School is testament to this Government’s commitment to providing the bust public school infrastructure where it is needed most.”
