Tender award for Hill Road Upgrade to boost Carter Street Precinct

The start of major work on Hill Road and Parramatta Road is a step closer with a tender for upgrade works awarded to Abergeldie Contractors Pty Ltd.

The NSW Government is funding the Hill Road Upgrade through the $140 million Housing Acceleration Fund, which supports future development in the Carter Street Precinct.

The Carter Street Precinct project will see the existing industrial area converted into a green and vibrant community with open spaces, a village green and 700 new homes within walking distance of the new Sydney Metro West station once completed.

Improvements to Hill Road will mean quicker connections for residents of the vibrant Carter Street Precinct accessing Sydney Olympic Park and surrounds.

Plans include upgrading the Parramatta Road intersection at Hill Road and Bombay Street, as well as widening the M4 Motorway eastbound off ramp into Hill Road.

Other improvements include delivering an upgrade to the Hill Road and John Ian Wing Parade intersection, a new fourth approach through Stockyard Boulevard, new lanes in every direction and shared pathways and wider footpaths to improve active transport options.

The project will ease congestion, deliver more reliable travel times, and improve safety for all road users on this section of Hill Road.

Construction is expected to commence in 2025 and will take a minimum of two years to complete.

State Member for Parramatta Donna Davis said:

“With increased housing and major events thriving in Sydney Olympic Park, it’s important that the existing road network is upgraded simultaneously to cope with growing demand.

“It’s not just the Carter Street Precinct that will benefit – Wentworth Point, Newington, and other growth areas will also be see improved travel times once this work is complete.”

Federal Member for Reid Sally Sitou said:

“Today’s contract award is a great step forward for these much-needed upgrades, which will support the growing communities and commercial centres around Lidcombe and Sydney Olympic Park.

“These upgrades will support growth in this area and surrounds, with Hill Road forming an increasingly important link in this developing part of Sydney.”
